New course: Ukulele for Beginners

Playing the ukulele is great fun and easy to pick up so you’ll soon be playing and singing popular tunes. We’ll cover basic chords and play and sing together. Bring your own ukulele if you have one. Ukuleles are available to use in class. No experience necessary as we will start at the very beginning.

New Course: Introduction to Astronomy

The dark nights of winter and spring provide an excellent opportunity to get to know the stars and planets on view. In this introductory course, we will learn how to recognise these and find out about the fascinating objects found in our universe.

Ever looked up on a clear dark night and wondered about the stars and planets?   You will learn how to recognise some of these and find out about how stars form and answer questions such as what are conditions like on Mars and Saturn, how many moons does Jupiter have and how does a telescope work?   Weather permitting, an evening observing session could be arranged.

New Course: Movement and Dance

Want to up your exercise levels and have fun at the same time? Why not start dancing?

WEA in association with Serendipity are offering dance class to people 45 and over.

The classes will focus on posture which will help with all aspects of everyday life: self-confidence, body strength, balance, and general wellbeing.

Each class is based on a wide repertoire of gentle exercises which will keep you moving and improve flexibility, coordination, stamina and core strength.

New course: Russian History

The course will examine the factors which changed a small principality based in the settlement of Kiev into a super-power dominating two continents. It will show the importance of the country’s links with Western Europe and at the same time the emergence of a governing structure which has made its continuing existence possible over many centuries. Topics will include: the change from Kievan Rus’ to the Grand Duchy of Moscow, the rise of the Romanovs, Imperial growth,  the emergence of the modern state.

The success of populists such as Donald Trump shows that rhetoric now has more influence in politics than truth – or does it?
