Students at the Shama Womens’ Centre have been learning new sewing and design skills.
WEA tutor, Tas Ali, explains, ‘The students only started this new course in January this year. They began by practising a range of design skills and by making small samples. They progressed to making full size cushions and covers.’
Tas adds, ‘ One student is so keen to use her new cushion making skills, that she is working with family in India to make cushions here and then post them out to customers. This is great news, as it means that not only can the student use her skills to produce items for the home, but also to begin running her own business.’
