People across Leicester are being challenged to try doing everyday things the digital way, in aid of national Get online week. This could be on line shopping, making travel arrangements, following a hobby or interest or keeping in touch with family and friends.
Now in its seventh year, Get online week takes place 14-20 October and encourages people to give online life a go at thousands of local events across the UK. If you’ve got a spare hour, join us at the WEA 101 centre on Monday 14 October between 10.30 am to 1 pm or 1.30 to 3.30 pm. It’s free and, even better, there’s free refreshments. WEA tutor John Blount will be there to help you – let’s get digital together!”
One person who’s already got online and got digital with the WEA 101 centre is Susan Woods. She explains, ’I have been attending adult education lessons with the WEA at 101 Hinckley Road on courses for maths and IT. I knew nothing about computers and only had the minimum maths skills. Because of my age thought I would never be able to learn but with WEA help and support I can now say I have passed level 1-2 exam in maths. In IT have passed OCR Certificate in IT User Skills (CLAIT) levels 1-2. I have enjoyed theses classes. I now do volunteering at the WEA helping others to learn how to use computers.’
