Qualifications can help get promotion

bcsLogoTop-w500-h500WEA 101 Branch student, Tony, shares his own story of how getting a qualification really can help to work towards  promotion at work.

Tony explains, ‘I work for a local authority, in an administration role. There is a grading structure in my generic job field, and to move up the ladder it is beneficial to have achieved qualifications in the use of IT applications, predominantly MS Office. As the authority has moved on in the version of MS Office it uses, I have taken the opportunity to keep pace through evening classes at WEA, and have most recently passed ECDL Level 2. The authority does provide its own training but because I have recently completed an NVQ with them I was not allowed to attend their courses in IT. I have always found the sessions at WEA to be time well spent, with the fringe benefit of meeting new people as they have attended to meet their own objectives.’

‘I also did a short Digital Photography class on Saturday afternoons a couple of years ago, which was fun and gave me opportunities to try out some photographic techniques as well as digital manipulation of the images.’

Tony has also been studying Get into Spanish at the WEA 101 Branch.
