Leicester Ageing Together is one of 14 Ageing Better projects funded by the Big Lottery Fund to tackle social isolation amongst the over 50’s. The project aims to tackle the problems of social isolation and loneliness and hosted an event on the 1st of October to showcase its plans at the Leicestershire County Cricked Club on Grace Road in Leicester.
The WEA’s ‘Older and Wiser’ Programme Organiser Sally Hall and the WEA 101 Leicester Programme Organiser Karen Chouhan met with key partners and set up taster sessions for the older people who attended the event. The Family History and IT taster sessions were run by WEA tutors Kevin Brown and Nusrat Hathiari which generated further interest in WEA courses. We are keen to establish further partnerships and to set up more events and activities to reduce isolation and loneliness with people over the age of 50 in Leicester.
Keep an eye out here for more information on Older & Wiser activity and for opportunities to create new learning programmes for older people whether in work, looking for work, seeking meaningful activity or in need of a real social connection.
