On Wednesday the 21st of October 2015 Cosmopolitan Arts hosted an arts based event at the African Caribbean Centre, aimed at bring communities together to celebrate the areas vast array of wonderful and culturally diverse communities. A WEA tutor Tasneem Ali, liaised with them to secure a stall at the event. Students at the Shama Women’s Centre where they had completed another successful year of soft furnishings were able to display and sell some of their items.
These students have been working with Tasneem to learn a whole range of new skills. The range of furnishings include beautiful cushions with intricate designs, lamp shades and curtains. First, they concentrated on cushion design and making. This year they have moved on to designing and making furnishings for a whole room.

Razia Shaikh has used an eye-catching combination of navy blue and cerise pink to make these range of cushions.
Rashida Bilimoria has designed a unique set of cushions.
Carmen Miller has made some bolster and traditional cushions from soft fabric to create a powerful display as shown.
Nazia Waseem’s range of work includes cushions in a pale fabric and some velvet cushions too.
Students felt that they had overall achieved knowledge and advice, but most of all the skills to be able to create stunning cushions, lamp shades and curtains and be proud of their displays at the event.
