A Student’s Success Story

Lis Manning is an art student at 101 and has written about her learning experience.

I decided to take up Annabel’s Botanical Watercolour class at 101 for a challenge, as I had never worked in this medium before.

I trained as an artist at Wolverhampton School of Art & Design were I received a degree in Fine Art Sculpture. After that I was invited to complete a Masters Degree at Birmingham UCE in Visual Communications my specialist subject was Visualising Drum & Bass music.

After many years and moving to Leicester I decided to focus my efforts on Art again after suffering a life changing injury. Through Annabel’s tutoring I discovered a love of Birch trees, which I explored through drawing and painting. I have now taking this further and have also joined Fosse Arts where I can work with clay. I have married the two art techniques together. From this I have created several pots inspired by branches, and have drawn with glaze my unique style of drawing.

Lis is also a branch member and a coordinator of the Art Exchange Group, which meets at 101 on Friday afternoons.

Please ring us on (0116) 255 6614 or email us with your name and expression of interest on becoming a branch member or further information about Art courses at 101leicester@wea.org.uk.
