Two new courses: Movement and Dance

Want to up your exercise levels and have fun at the same time? Why not start dancing?

WEA in association with Serendipity are offering dance class to people 45 and over.

The classes will focus on posture which will help with all aspects of everyday life: self-confidence, body strength, balance, and general wellbeing.

Each class is based on a wide repertoire of gentle exercises which will keep you moving and improve flexibility, coordination, stamina and core strength.

New Course: Archaeology – Treasures of the Midlands

You may have heard of Tutankhamun’s tomb and Pompeii, but did you know there have been some amazing discoveries made right on your doorstep? From the coins of the Hallaton Hoard to the Saxon gold of the Staffordshire Hoard and a medieval boar badge that moved a battlefield, this course will introduce you to some of these great local finds. Everyone welcome; no previous knowledge assumed.

New Course: Silk Painting

Following a successful taster session last month held at the Newarke Houses museum during the Adult Festival of Learning we will be running a silk painting course here at the WEA, 101 Hinckley Road, Leicester LE3 0TD.

On the course you will explore the art of painting on silk. Basic techniques will be explored for those who are new to the course and techniques will be developed and extended for those with some previous knowledge.

As well as painting we will explore the use of resist techniques, using salt or sugar to create unique patterns and textures, shibori and more.

Course Dates:  Monday 11 September to 11 December 2017

Free Taster: Philosophy – What’s it all about?

Come and join our experienced tutor Bettina Lange on Monday 31 July 2017 at the Great Meeting Unitarian Chapel, East Bond Street, Leicester LE1 4SX from 10.15 am – 12.15 pm.

The taster will include – What do philosophers do and how do they do it? This taster gives you an idea of philosophical topics, from logical thinking to reflecting on what gives our lives meaning – and you can try your hand at being a philosopher too!

Student Achievement

Lis Manning from our Exploring Botanical Drawing and Painting Wednesday class has created 3 pieces of work which has been chosen for the Open 28 Leicester and East Midlands Open Art Exhibition 2017.

The exhibition will be open to the public from Thursday 6th July until Saturday 26th August.   Due to extended building works at New Walk Museum the exhibition will be at the Old Library Gallery at 50-54 Belvoir Street, Leicester, LE1 6QL.
